It Smiles!!

What smiles? You may be wondering...

And the answer is...the Home Renovation Gods are smiling! Right down on top of me today.

Or maybe my friend, Rachel, is just my lucky charm...either way today was a successful day in our household.

I got a first coat of paint on a couple of pieces for the June sale. Then I finally finally finished chipping away at the floors in the living room. Seriously, the heavens opened up and angels sang. I had started misting the wallpaper in the living room while working on the floors but then Rachel popped by to drop off some BM paint samples for me. We were chatting in the entry, which led to picking at the wallpaper in there, which led to...

a naked entryway! Aside from the bits of border you see, it all came off super easy with no soaking or tools involved. I didn't curse or get upset. Rachel did ruin her nail polish, but I think she will live. We started working in the living room a little and then she needed to go. Amazing how motivating a little taste of success can be! I kept working after she left and got the entire living room done in two hours. Best wallpaper job in the history of wallpaper. It was coming down in huge chunks and in several instances, entire strips.

This makes me so happy.

Of course, I had to press my luck and moved on to start in the breakfast area of the kitchen. After ripping off the top layer of vinyl paper, then the backing, I was greeted with this mess.

I should have quit while I was ahead. Lesson learned. But I still send my thanks to those Home Renovation Gods that smiled down on me today.

June craziness

Ok folks. Mom and I had the hair-brained idea to do two sales in June. Two sales on the same weekend in June. Two sales that start two weeks from today. Ahhhhhh!!!!!

This lovely armoire is my biggest project. When finished, it would be so cute in a baby's room. It is a manageable size, just an inch or so taller than me and was partially stripped when we bought it. I'm so excited to see this when I get done with it.

And this sweet little side table. I've already started glueing some of the laminate back down.

I got it primed this afternoon and should have it painted by the end of the weekend.

Things on the home front haven't changed much. Still trying to decide what to do with the hardwoods in the living/dining room. I did finally receive the family room curtains I purchased from West Elm in FEBRUARY and got them hung last weekend. They need a little doctoring before I share them but I really like them. Stay tuned!!

May Sale

Well I had scheduled a post for earlier this week, since I would be out of town, but it didn't do it. Dang.

Our May sale is in progress. Here is one item I worked on for the sale. It is a blanket chest, which is interesting because I hadn't seen one with tall legs before. I painted the outside white, with some gray details, and left the inside alone because it was amazing as is.

Blanket Chest: Before

Blanket Chest: After

And here is a view around our space!

Love those wooden hangers! Most came from one of my great-grandmother's husbands.

Crossing my fingers I should finally get done with floor clean-up in the living room today!

Stagnation

Sometimes Stagnation feels a bit like Damnation.

I am STILL battling with the floors in the living and dining rooms.

The dining room carpet and pads came up super easy. I got spoiled very quickly. The living room, due to its higher traffic volume and its use as the kitty's litter box, is a whole different story.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT!!!
Please, please, please. For the sake of the future owners of your house, do NOT let your animals use the inside of the house for their personal dumping ground.

Here is a preview of what I am dealing with:

I've tried water, vinegar and fabric softener. Tomorrow I turn to the sander. Wish me luck!!

In much happier and exciting news...Justin Timberlake is collaborating with an interior designer for

HomeMint. It's related to all those wonderful other Mints (ShoeMint, JewelMint, etc). If you want a referral click... here!

Pretty Interruption!

I choose to be side tracked from the usual posts (mostly because I am pouting about the carpet removal process in the living room, more on that later this week) to bring you pretty pictures.

My dear friend, Rachel, got married last May (almost a year ago!!). Her florist recently posted some pictures on her site which reminded me how lovely it all was. She incorporated a lot of vintage touches in her big day, which is right up my alley!

Who doesn't love a retro camera app??

Love the exposed brick. The building is in the West Bottoms (just blocks from where our shop is).

Me looking goofy. But those flowers!!! Peonies, roses, gorgeousness!

Wood plank walls, vintage buffet...

More lovely, vintage-y feeling flowers.

Photo shoot in an old part of town.

Look what can be done with a brick courtyard!

It was a great day to be a part of. So many lovely elements coming together: people, setting, palette, weather, flowers, building features, accessories. It was modern, like they are, but old fashioned, like their love is. Totally cheesy. I'll own up to that. But true anyway...
